Monsanto Cares about Farmers….NOT

So it’s been about a week since PUBPAT filed our lawsuit against Monsanto and it’s onerous patenting practices.  There are news articles all over the web about it.  Most of them just reprinting what was in the initial PUBPAT press release.

But as I was surfing around yesterday I found THE MONSANTO BLOG.  You know some folks should just not be allowed to blog.  But there it was.  I have heard that the internet was like the wild west with no sheriff and I think this proves it.

Anyhow in their post about the suit titled “PUBPAT allegations are False, Misleading and Deceptive”  they have such truthiness as:

“It has never been, nor will it be Monsanto policy to exercise its patent rights where trace amounts of our patented seed or traits are present in farmer’s fields as a result of inadvertent means.”

I say:  BULLSHIT!!! (See Percy Schmeiser)

“Rather we believe that farmers should have the ability to choose the best agricultural tools to farm their own land and serve their own end-market customers.  We are confident that these multiple approaches can coexist side-by-side and sustainably meet the world’s food needs over next 40 years.”

Again I say:  BULLSHIT

And they’ve got their shills out there saying that there is no reason to think that organic crops and GMO crops can’t happily co-exist.   Essentially saying  “Come on guys what’s your problem with a little contamination of your organic seed with our nice GMOs?”

As Upton Sinclair pointed out long ago, it’s difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.

I actually have first hand knowledge of this phenomenon.  An old High School friend was once a patent attorney for Monsanto (he has since moved on to other nefarious, but lucrative activities).  When I discovered this  he and I started an email exchange about what I see as an ethical dilemma.  He obviously saw it very differently.  After about two exchanges he said we had to agree to disagree and we fell out of touch.  People do not want to hear that their very cushy jobs or research grants are being provided to them by corporate criminals.
